And that would be a deflated wombat.... which is what I feel like. =p Woke up at 0430 with my back stabbing at me... I really don't want to go through another 20 years of this. >_> No more stand-up jobs. *pours another glass of whine*

Where's the aspirin....

“You sonuvabitch! You said they only offered four million! And you said Ctik knew about it and approved!” she yelled. She swung a wild roundhouse at Miles, spinning as he ducked the blow. Duo caught her before she could fall.

“Mrs Grinsted, I presume?”

“Not for much longer!” she snarled.

Heero snickered; it sounded… well, scary. “I see which side of the family you take after, Miles. Now, I want a cashier’s check for 90% of the proceeds, made out to Ctik.”

“What?! I’m not-“

Heero changed, wings lifting threateningly. “Or I will rip off your head and shove it up your ass,” he snarled, glaring down at the stunned man.

“Oh my god!” shrieked his wife. “Miles, you asshole! WHAT DID YOU DO?!”

The next few minutes were confused. Or chaotic. Duo leaned toward chaotic confusion. Mrs Grinsted screamed angrily; Miles bellowed defensively and then the two other voices – belonging to Miles’ children – joined the melee.

Both he and Heero stepped back a pace as the family members yelled and screamed at each other until Miles suddenly began flailing his arms wildly.

“I had to! I had to replace the college funds!”

Dead silence. *Stunned* dead silence.

Heero lowered his head slowly to look Miles in the eyes.

“I’m sorry, Miles; would you repeat that last statement?” Heero rumbled calmly.

“I-I-I…” Miles stammered.

Heero laid one taloned hand on the man’s shoulder. “Miles…” He smiled, showing most of his razor-sharp teeth. His frills were rising and his tail had begun to twitch ominously. “I heard ‘college funds’, did I not.”

“I was going to put it back…” Miles whispered.

“Dad! What did you do?!” That was the female child; she looked about sixteen.

Neither of the children, Duo noted, seemed the slightest bit startled at having a scaly blue Wyvern Dragon standing in the parlor. Must be a side-effect of having a vampire in the family.

“You raided the kids’ college accounts?!” gasped his wife. “Miles! What’s wrong with you?!”

“I *had* to! Gisela, I lost almost two million in the stock market! We’re worse than broke!”

“Ah,” said Heero softly. “So that’s why you removed Ctik’s earth. Remove the earth, remove the vampire. Remove the pointing finger… In that case, the amount of the check will be 99% of the proceeds. You may keep the rest as a finder’s fee.”

“What?! I *will* not!”

Heero’s talons tightened on Miles’ shoulder; the man winced. “Yes, you will, Miles.” He shifted his hand to the back of Miles’ neck and took hold of his shirt and sweater. “What bank?” he asked Gisela.

She swallowed. “Farmer’s Trust; in the city.”

“Do they know Ctik?”

“Yes. Allan Horstang is the account manager. Are you going to… to… bring Miles back?” she asked hesitantly.

Heero cocked his head at her. “Do you want him back?”

She opened her mouth, and then closed it thoughtfully. “I guess so… I still need to know what the hell he did with the college money.” She glared at her petrified husband. “What’s Matthew supposed to do in August, you fuckwit?! Come home and work at McDonald’s?” She collapsed into a chair, head in her hands. “You are so stupid…”

The two children aligned themselves with their mother and glared at their father. Clearly, he would not be inspiring any “Why I Love My Dad” essays for Father’s day.

“As you wish, Mrs Grinsted,” Heero murmured. “Duo, would you take the information while Miles and I deal with the business side? Thank you.”

He stalked out of the room, hauling Miles with him. Miles appeared to be praying; at least, his lips were moving quite rapidly and his eyes were screwed tightly shut. Good; after what he’d done to Ctik, Duo didn’t have any sympathy for the idiot.

you are made of awesome.
I am very sorry your back is still bothering you though. Another hellish job, I take it?

Still lingering from the last one.... >.< I have a degenerating disc in my lower back; it apparently went dormant or I got used to it back in the day, but that last job woke it up again. *sigh* I can understand how some people get addicted to Rx painkillers.... Too bad my doctor refuses to oblige me. ^.o

I am made of... 'ow'some right now. ^___^

LOL. owsome then. :)

I hope it doesn't continue to bother you. I'd suggest a chiropractor, but you probably don't have the time or money to go around searching for one who knows what they're doing and won't charge you an arm and a leg.

The time would be well-spent and the money I could manage if I thought it would help. It's the finding of a chiro around here who isn't a total wackaloon. >.< I've been to chiros before, and they managed to scare the crap out of me. Couldn't get out the door fast enough. >_>

It seems to be easing up, finally. Still hurts, but mostly when I'm lying down. *sigh*

I know what you mean. that's why I said it probably isn't worth your time to go around searching for one who knows what they're doing.

hurts when you're lying down? O_o;

I know; that's bizarre. >_> I'm fine sitting and standing or walking is okay as long as I change positions and keep moving, but I wake up in the morning hurting like crazy. I'm doing something in my sleep and I really wish I'd stop it. =p Fortunately the three aspirins seems to help. O.o

Just got back from moving another load of stuff from old storage to new, and all I have is the usual background ache. O.o Weird, but good. ^__^

so your back just doesn't like it when you're still, and you sleep like the dead?

*sigh* at least you can still do what you need to.

So... can the reviewers still approve a raise if they're comatose from shock? O.o Sure; just call for an appointment. ^___~

It's not like I've seen a raise in years anyway, might as well get the entertainment value!

Hmm... Sounds like you work for one of my old employers... >_<

"Raise?! You should be grateful to have a job! Now, get back to work and produce even more."

And they wondered why their turnover was so high.... O.o

Ohhhhh, Miles may not want Heero to bring him home- his wife and kids are going to eat him alive! hilarious!!!

I hope you have a steady supply of hot pads and painkillers and minions... *hugs carefully*

Since Gisela requested his return, Heero will indeed return him. ^__^ No matter how much he pleads not to. Besides, Ctik needs to have a few words with his "cousin" as well. ^.o

I have aspirin... That's pretty much it... No minions and the heating pad won't help. *sigh* At least my desk chair has a tilt feature, so I sit here and "rock"; that seems to feel good. >_>

Yeah, I don't think even a Wyvern is quite as bad as a furious wife, kids and ancestor... Miles might wish Heero did put him out of his misery!

Rocking is good! Does the aspirin help?

Date: 2008-07-18 08:51 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] lavendarlizard.livejournal.com
Heh. ^.o Especially as he's not going to get to keep all the money. Poor Miles. Literally. ^___^

The aspirin works pretty well for me. I've had prescription stuff that doesn't work as well; vicodin is just useless. >_>

And... wait for it... I found a storage place closer to home, so starting tomorrow the kid and I are going to move everything from the old one to the new one. To finish by the end of the month. O.o The heaviest things are a smallish pub table, an antique hapi table and two antique camphorwood chests. Everything else is boxes. Heavy things tomorrow; get it over with, then we can do a load of boxes each day. Yes, I am out of my mind. ^__~

Vicodin usually puts me right to sleep- which means no pain, but only cause I'm out...

O.o You are out of your mind. Well- go slowly and try to get the kid to take the heaviest parts?

Date: 2008-07-18 09:55 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] lavendarlizard.livejournal.com
Vicodin just leaves me going "Well?! Anytime!" >_>

The old place has carts and an elevator, so I plan to make use of those, and the new place is ground level, also with carts. ^___^

Yeah, kid is definitely getting a workout tomorrow. ^___^ I expect much wailing, whining and gnashing of teeth. But I'll treat him to dinner, so that'll make him happy. ^__^

I really hope Heero controls himself and doesn't eat him. He'll just get indigestion, guy's to greasy.

Heero is much more discerning than that. ^___^ Eating them is just a threat. Mostly. >_>

From: [identity profile] sunhawk16.livejournal.com
I still maintain that 'Do you want him back?' is the best line in the whole thing! ^______^ I'd have said no... >_>

Ok, Dragon-lady... the kid better be doing all the lifting tomorrow! *eyes you* That wombat can't get much flatter! O.O

Date: 2008-07-19 01:37 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] lavendarlizard.livejournal.com
Yeah, I wouldn't want him back either, but he needs to sign the divorce papers. ^.o

Kid is totally clueless about loading a truck, but he does lift and tote and follow instructions pretty well, so I think it'll be okay. ^___^ If you hear me screeching all the way back there, you'll know I fell victim to the mommy-twitch: "Oh, give me that! I'll do it myself!" Reminds me... I need to find the spider... >_>

So... how did YOUR weekend go? O.o

From: [identity profile] lavendarlizard.livejournal.com
Not too bad, really. ^__^ I got the new storage and we moved the camphorwood chests yeaterday. Did seven bins today. I'm planning on one load every morning this week. Kid can load, then I drop him at work and go to the new place and unload. No stairs at the new place; yay! ^____^

So far no hissy-fits from my back... O.O Knock on plastic....

Date: 2008-07-21 10:01 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] sunhawk16.livejournal.com
There were STAIRS? O.o I've never seen a storage place that wasn't just a flat lot full of rows of concrete block buldings.

Date: 2008-07-21 01:27 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] lavendarlizard.livejournal.com
Oh, yeah. ^___^ The old place has seven or eight separate buildings and we happened to be in the two-storey one. It has an elevator, but it's really more of a pain in the butt to use, since the stairs are right next to my unit, but the elevator is like half a mile away. *thinks* Right off the top of my head, maybe half the storage places around here are multi-level. The new one is built on a hill, though, so even though the buildings are two-storey, they're arranged so each level is on a flat. ^___^ And I'm *still* right next to the exit.

And closer? And less money? Or, at least less gas to get there?

Date: 2008-07-22 12:07 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] lavendarlizard.livejournal.com
Yep. ^___^ Down the hill and around the corner AND less money. If I wanted to, it's close enough to walk to. ^__^
