early today... what am I thinking?!
Oct. 12th, 2007 08:34 amI have a part-time job, see... *sigh* It won't pay the bills and it sure as hell won't pay for my insurance, but at least we'll eat. But I expect to be beat to hell by the time I get home tonight, so figured I better post this now. >_>
For anyone interested, the job I really want is still in process. Who knew that it could take up to six months to get a job where you don't even carry a gun? O.O Alternate job possibility has skipped happily into my life, so I may even have a backup now. ^__^ Happy about that; not happy at spending all day on my feet again. I worked pretty hard to get past that stage of my life; not at all amused at having to backtrack. Still, the place does offer a pretty decent employee discount... if I had any money to take advantage of it. =p
Anyway; more Lockjaw. Enjoy!
A rumble of protest from the hallway.
"I SAY SO! OUT! IF SOMEONE DIES BECAUSE OF YOU, I'LL SEE EVERY-DAMN-ONE OF YOU IN PRISON! Get that fucking camera out of my face or I will feed it to you!"
"*GENTLEMEN! LADIES!*"
Wufei snickered. "Uh-oh... Une's here. They're stuffing into the elevators like sardines into a can... Yuy just planted his foot in someone's butt so the doors will close. Ha! Noin brought a squad in riot gear... Heero's coming..." He hopped away from the door only an instant before it burst open.
"Duo! Are you okay? They didn't get in here, did they?" He didn't notice Wufei flattened against the wall until he spoke.
"Yuy, please!" he huffed. "Do you think I'd let those hyenas disturb Maxwell? I am insulted!" He stuck his nose in the air haughtily, but the effect was ruined by his snicker.
"Chang, you're supposed to be resting, not fending off jackals." Heero wrapped his arms around Duo, hugging him close. "Okay?" he murmured and kissed his forehead.
"I am now," Duo sighed.
"I was resting," insisted Wufei, returning to the chair. "Not like I couldn't still kick ass on those fools," he sneered.
"Lemme see," Duo demanded, turning Heero's head to get a look at the stitches. Wufei also leaned closer. "Hmm... Not too bad," Duo allowed critically, tracing the twelve tiny neat stitches covered by a clear plastic butterfly. He glanced at Wufei who was also nodding his approval. "Your lady does pretty good work."
Wufei snorted in amusement. "The lady has taken up quilting."
Heero also snorted. "An outstanding use of her skills."
Duo reached for his arm. "Wrist now. How bad is it?" he demanded checking the splints and wrapping.
"Clean break. Sally says she'll stick it in regen as soon as the swelling goes down, and then cast it. Tonight or tomorrow." He nuzzled Duo's temple. "Sorry about our vacation, babe..."
Duo huffed. "So am I, but hey, I'm a big boy; I can handle it."
Wufei snickered. Duo glared at him.
"I already talked to Une," Heero said. "She says we have six weeks of medical leave plus up to six weeks of vacation, if we want it. Starting now."
Duo stared at him. "Really? Well, shit; we may have to name our first child after her!"

Date: 2007-10-12 05:26 pm (UTC)As for Lockjaw...I love it! The idea of Heero pushing the reporter into the packed elevator with his foot...Noin with the squad in riot gear...Une terrifying the press...Hehheh.
And sweet Heero, beat up himself, cuddling Duo who's probably in better shape than HE is....*sigh* This is such a wonderful fic. Thanks so much.
Oh yeah, loved the bit about Sally taking up quilting and Heero's remark about it.

Date: 2007-10-13 03:15 am (UTC)I do believe Heero was channelling the Tokyo subway pushers. ^___^ Although he probably would have preferred an open shaft....
Everybody needs a hobby... ^___^ Just ask Sunny.

Date: 2007-10-13 03:19 am (UTC)Light a couple more, please. My back feels like it's on fire. >.< I got off my feet for the sake of my back; I am not amused. Tomorrow is my 'long day', 7.5 hours. I work 4hr on Sunday, then off until Thursday.

Date: 2007-10-13 03:23 am (UTC)*dips a couple more rodents* Gotcha. ^^; Can you at least wear comfortable shoes? I wear Nike hiking shoes, and my feet would KILL me if I didn't. But that's good hours, right? Money is a good thing...

Date: 2007-10-13 04:16 pm (UTC)The registers at this place are a touch screen monitor hanging in mid-air. I don't like it because it kind of bounces everytime I tap a key. =p Everything scans, but sometimes the scanner is wonky. It does all the math for you; all you have to do is pull out the right money. Making change has never been a problem for me; I used to do it in my head, but it's nice to have it onscreen now that I'm old and creaky. ^__^ The drawer seems to be located in position for gnomes, sprites and garden fairies to be able to reach it; it's also killing my back. >.<
Most people are really nice, although there was this crusty bat yesterday who got her knickers in a knot when I told her I couldn't do returns. She got all snide and sarcastic about how I certainly wasn't *helping*. But hey, only managers and sups can do returns; nothing I can do about that. ^___^
Oh, and one person who bought a lighted crochet hook and got snappish when I said that I hoped it worked out well. She said if it didn't, she'd by god return it! O.O Oooooh... Somebody missed their coffee. ^.o

Date: 2007-10-14 02:08 am (UTC)Don't be flustered; just say it's an afghan or a quilt. Most of them are just making polite noise. ^__^ I don't see a lot of craft interest from some of the people at the place either. It is weird... A few people are crafty, but they seem to be the older employees. The young ones just don't seem interested at all. O.O I spent the whole frigging day on a damn register, staring at stuff, thinking "Oooooh...! That looks neat!" and not being able to walk over and examine it. >.< Everybody should have some kind of hands-on hobby... O.o

Date: 2007-10-14 02:21 pm (UTC)The last time somebody asked me, I was buying some of the printable fabric and they actually asked what I was going to print, It caught me off-guard to start with, and then the kid started snickering behind her hand. So I stammered out this, 'Uh... uh... cartoon characters!', but I was blushing bright red and Sap KNOWS what they thought! ^o^

Date: 2007-10-13 04:06 pm (UTC)Walmart's grip on the market and on suppliers seems to be slipping; probably why they're in panic mode. The attitude that really ticks me off is the 'you don't like it here, tough; you can be replaced anytime.' It's the troops on the ground who really know what's going on and what customers want; if Bentonville don't wanna listen, oh well.
I'm working at a craft store. Same holiday lunacy, just two months earlier. There is just no way to bag damn flower picks without them holing the bag. >.< And cheap bags, at that.
