I wrote this as a continuation of Sunhawk's "Heero Yuy - Horse Farmer". I *think* I posted it way back, but... can't remember, so you get it again. ^__^ I have a feeling there is more to this, but it doesn't want to show itself yet; maybe some day. ^.o
Heero Yuy – Horse Farmer V2.0
A continuation of Sunhawk’s “Heero Yuy – Horse Farmer”
The phone on Quatre’s desk beeped; he touched the button automatically. His EA’s face appeared looking somewhat confused.
“Mr Winner, there is a call for you, but the gentleman refused to give his name. He said to tell you that it was... Lawrence of Arabia?”
Quatre snickered. “It’s fine, Ms Tomiyoshi; I know who it is. Go ahead and put him through.”
“All right, Mr Winner.” She still sounded uncertain.
The screen went blue for an instant and then cleared.
“Hello, Heero,” said Quatre without looking up. “What’s going on?”
“I’m going to kill you.”
“I know. Until then, what can I do for you?”
“He’s found a place.”
“Isn’t that good?
“It’s in California!”
“Oh. Tell him it’s too far away.”
“How?! How am I supposed to tell him ‘NO!’”
“Well, Heero; he’s your husband, surely you can explain to him....”
“I tried! He... he looked at me... Then he sighed. Then he apologized! It was like cutting out my own heart with a rusty spoon!” He paused to catch his breath and run his fingers through his already-messy hair. “He bought that horse!”
Quatre blinked. He and Duo had gone horse-shopping last weekend, but he had no idea that Duo had made a decision. When they had last talked, Duo had been torn between a serene Appaloosa and a rather frisky Arabian...
“Which horse?”
“That monstrous black one!”
Hm... That might not be good. If Quatre remember correctly, the only big black horse they had looked at was an Arab/Standardbred cross, only three years old and not a very good choice for a novice.
“The one at Bartolli’s?”
“Yes!”
“Oh, dear...”
“’Oh dear’? That’s it?! ‘OH DEAR’?” Quatre could hear Heero’s raspy breathing. “You better have a better solution than ‘oh dear’, dammit!”
“Calm down, Heero,” he admonished gently. Interesting how Heero had never been this hysterical during the war; surely love did do strange things to people. A light tapping came from the door and he looked up to see his own strange love peeking around the door inquisitively. “I’ll need a few moments to consider this,” he said to the phone. “Why don’t you come for dinner tonight? I’m sure between us we can nudge him in a different direction; okay, Heero?”
“Sure; why not return to the scene of the crime...” Heero muttered listlessly. “Seven?”
“Make it six; it’ll give us time to talk.”
Heero merely nodded and cut the connection.
“Who are we nudging and where are we nudging them to?” asked Trowa, coming to lean against Quatre’s desk.
“Duo bought a horse and found a ranch. In California.”
Trowa’s eyebrows shot up. “Already?”
Quatre chuckled. “There are no flies on our Duo Maxwell.”
“Obviously not... I take it Heero is... less than happy?”
“Remember that nasty horse that Bartolli showed us; big, black, skittish as hell?”
“He didn’t.”
“He did.”
Trowa smacked his own forehead. “Idiot boy!”
Quatre smirked. “Oh, I don’t know... Duo’s pretty nasty himself when he puts his mind to it.”
“Five creds says he names the thing Shinigami.”
They shook hands solemnly; “You’re on,” Quatre grinned.
