lavandarlizard2: (I need a drink)

Sooo... I've been re-reading Sunhawk's "Ion" series - for the second time in two months - thanks to the generosity of the Wizard of all things Technological. I now haz a Nook and the BlackBird was nice enough to load some fic for me. ^___^

Anyway, I was reading and snickering over the house-moving and it kind of rose up and smacked me that I will probably be moving around year-end. In the process of stripping my bookcases to get a headstart on packing, I remembered Duo's declaration that buying a house was such a pain in the butt that he was never moving again. The two things merged and mingled and got watered by some of the kid's coffee, and well... This is the result. ^___^

This isn't meant to be any sort of Ion knock-off, since Sunny does much better dialogue fics and IonDuo is a tougher little shit than my Duo here, but it might be an A/U Duo who has to pack up, pick up and do the house-acquiring thing all over again. Oh, I also remembered some of my most hideous moves. >.< Been trying to forget those for years; obviously didn't work.

In any case... here it is. Sap, but I hate moving. >_>

Moving On

Heero...

Yeah?

Where's the box with the bathroom stuff?

Um... Over there. The one that says Bathroom Stuff on it.

Crap. If it was a snake... Thanks.

Duo...

Yes, my dearly beloved?

Why are there towels in the Utility Room box?

What kind of towels?

The good ones. From the bathroom.

Oh... shit... Maybe one of them was in the utility room when it was packed?

Okay. One I would buy, but this box has all the towels.

But... Then what's in the bathroom box?

You're closer to it.

Jerk.

I think we have a problem...

God, what now? 'ouch!'

This Kitchen box has books in it.

Heero... Please... Don't tell me...

All of the boxes may be mismarked.

Dammit! I asked you...! Oh shit...

What's in the bathroom box?

Uniforms. Yours, I think.

~sigh~

Do you need a beer as much as I need a beer right now?

I'll take one of the Australian ones...

Here ya go, buddy...

Who packed these boxes, dammit?

Um... Trowa was working in the living room and dining room, wrapping furniture, so it wasn't him. I'm pretty sure it wasn't me, and I know it wasn't you, so...

Oh my god... They were working together.

Yep. And it may just be my imagination, but I think they started out with a case of that micro-brew. The Hells-Bells one. I know it was gone by the time the truck arrived.

Shit. One'll get you ten they were labeling after the boxes were sealed.

Aw, man... Heero... I don't wanna open sixty boxes! I just want a shower and to go to bed...

I know, baby, I know...

I'm so fucking tired...

Tell you what, that Walmart down the road is open 24 hours. I'll run down and buy some soap and shampoo and you shovel a path to the bathroom. I'll be back in fifteen minutes, baby.

Can you bring food, too?

I'll bring food. And linens for the bed.

I love you.

I love you too.

And Wufei and Quatre are never packing for us again, right?

If Trowa values his own life.

My hero....

Oh lordy, this is soooo familiar. We moved in 2006 and I still have bad dreams about it. Poor Duo.

Loved it, lady.

Thank you!

From the time I was 10 until I was 33, I moved every couple of years. My last move was 2001. *sigh* I am really dreading the next one. At least Heero and Duo have someone to blame. ^___^

oh man this sounds so familiar....I moved 8times in 2 years and by the last time I was just dumping things in bags then into the car. When I moved into my current place you should have seen the piles of crap everywhere. The first move I made I was all organized with boxes, labels, and neat and tidy. 8 moves later and that went out the window lol! I was of the mindset "just get it where it needs to go! and if I can see I know where it goes!"

Most of my moves were across town type of things when I was young. Then a long-distance move where we lived in three different places before another long-distance move 8 months later. >_< *bleh*

I am so tempted to just fill bags, but I have too much hard stuff - books, etc. And furniture. This time I have actual *furniture*! O_O

But at least I have 4-6 months to pack. ^___^

Oh, God! I really feel for them. (and you)

When we built this house, I knew I had to move two houses into it. I had planned on moving in the bedrooms and bathrooms first then taking at least a week to go through, get rid of, and move in.

I got one day!!!! Himself hired a mover, without telling me, and dragged him in (Like a coonhound dragging in road kill). "Ready to move?"

Ready to KILL! Grrr. Ten years later and I still haven't found some things.

Oh. My. Sap. O_O And he *lived*?!

I do have the advantage of having a roommate and a kid who are great minions. ^___^ Um... Once I get into the Scary-Une mode. I point, they move.

There is stuff in my garage right now, that hasn't seen the light of day in eleven years... And about half og it needs to be repacked. =P

He barely survived. My Dad got his first experience with, what my son calls, Psycho Mom. I ran the riot act over everyone. The movers were even scared of me. Himself bore with it, as I told him he was 'dogs body' whether he liked it or not.

We started at 0600 and finished up at 2245. All I wanted to do was fall into bed.

But the house was clean (something he didn't take into account. Construction workers don't clean! Full stop/period.) furniture arranged, beds made, etc. I didn't feed anyone and didn't speak to him for two whole days.

Oh gods, so much sympathy.

In my 20s I moved to different towns, even different continents; in my 30s, I was part-time school/full-time work, and moving to cut costs. In my 40s I only moved a few times, once to be supported by friends while my disability came through, and once when it finally did. My last move was 8 years ago, something of a miracle. I'm the only person who has ever lived in this apartment, and that makes it special.

The thought of moving again is just not to be borne.

And oh hey, coinkydink! Sorta. I just got done reading (and getting emotionally flayed by) Sunhawk's Road Trip Arc. I figured I'd take up Road Trip again as my next big "I'm bored, Internets, entertain me" project. Glad to hear I'm not the only one. ^_^

Huh. I did the cross-country thing in my twenties and the overseas thing late-20s/early-30s. Been in the same damn area since then. ^___^ I started out here on the coast, and we're slowly edging east. *sigh* Much cheaper.

I alternate between Road Trip and Ion when I want something loooong, and Merula for short stuff. I hope to add some Jei to that mix as soon as I figure out how to download to my Nook. ^____^

And then there's MoR... *snork!*

Ugh, I was tired yesterday when I wrote that -- I meant to say I'm going to read Ion next. D'oh!

Yes, I've been reading Merula lately, too. Jei and MoR are always on rotation, LOL. I've been checking out MoR's latest contest, but there's not much there that interests me, sadly.

This is why I am never moving again.

Course now I've jinxed myself haven't I? *sigh*

I hope Wufei and Q keep out of the way for a few weeks... *grin*

Depending on how random their packing was, that may need to be a few months. ^___^

If I actually owned my home, it would take an alien invasion to get me to move. >.<

LOL. My parents accidentally moved to VA and left if up to me to pack up their stuff... The things you'll find... *shudders*

I'm STILL missing some of my stuff from when I moved into this house in 2003.

I loved this little ficlet. That sounds about what I went through in November - the only problem is that I'm still trying to unpack with no help from the dogs and cats. To make matters worse, one of my bookcases collapsed and now there are stacks of books on my bedroom floor. *sigh* I may have to resort to reboxing them. Oh well, I do not plan on moving EVER again.

I am not looking forward to this at all. It's been 11 years since my last move and you know how stuff accumulates. >_> I have to give up a cat, try to figure out whether I can do it all myself or if I'll have to hire someone, and then hope I can afford that. *sigh*

^___^ I just suddenly wanted to compare my version of moving hell with what I imagine the guys' version to be. I really prefer theirs, but I don't think I get a choice. ^___^

There's always that old grad student standby for books - cement blocks and 1x12s. I had those for years. ^___^
