Just when you think it can't get worse... well, it does.

I live in an apartment. I am fortunate enough to have a garage to stuff with all my junk and clutter, and stuff it, I do. This means that I only go out there when I have something to stuff in or am looking for something amongst the clutter.

Today, I chased the Dragonette out to put some boxes in the garage, since I'm tired of them hanging out in the dining room.

He comes back to inform me "There's a hole in the wall."

I go out to check. By god, there sure as shit *IS* a hole in the wall, between my garage and the one next to it. A hole big enough for an athletic-minded person to comfortably climb through. Roughly three feet by four feet.

So, now it's decision time. Management is going to fix the hole - bloody damn well they'll fix it! - but I am now left with the fact that people can break in at will. Do I just shrug and leave the junk in there, or do I go out and rent an off-site storage room? That was one of the things that sold me on this place; the idea of having a garage to keep my over-flow of yarn and books and other stuff.

And I guess I'll be even more suspicious of my 'neighbors.' Great. Just fucking great. I feel like alarming the garage. I wonder if I could use cattle wire? Probably not; people are so freaking *concerned* about the criminals, screw the rest of us. I say if they want to steal, let them take their chances with high voltage.

I guess I will be looking up the closest storage facility. ...goddammit to hell...

Uh... O.O Is there any explanation as to where the hole came from and why? O.o
And how long before it gets fixed?

No explanation. Could've been there for a month; it's been about that long since I was in there last. I think it's the punk kids in the area. The little proto-whore upstairs always seems to have a bunch of them hanging around. Or it could be the gardener guys, who have seen the inside of my personal junkyard when they're cleaning their equipment on the weekends.

The garage next to mine, I discovered yesterday, is not locked. They only put a car in it, and I guess they don't feel the need.

The guy at the office said they'd have it fixed immediately, but that's what they always say, so I'm going to call when I get to work and talk to the regular office person. And Dragonette is going to check it when he gets home from school. I may even leave work early. Still debating whether to make a police report. They can't do anything, but at least it would be on record.

I had the kid park a couple of the large storage barrels in front of the hole yesterday, so at least it's not 'wide' wide open...

The thing that bothers me the most is that no one really gives a fuck anymore. Just 'oh, gee, that's too bad, but whaddaya gonna do?' Cattle wire, 5000 volts, that's what you do.

And it's not like there's even anything valuable in there. It's all yarn and books; just personal junk that I haven't been able to let go of. The only things of value, a refrigerator and a washing machine, wouldn't be accessed by a damn hole in the wall.

God, I feel like I'm living in fucking Tijuana...

Did you get anywhere getting them to repair it? I'd be all paranoid that something was missing. Though... if it really is kids, might they simply been looking for, uh... someplace out of sight? ~_~
Though even that's got it's dangers, if they get bored they might just resort to vandalizm. If the management doesn't have stuff fixed soon, I'd be tempted to at least haul some of that stuff into the apartment for the time being. Even if it's in the way, at least it would be safe. People can suck sometimes.

Management says they'll 'get right on it'. Sure. I even told the guy it sucks that the other garage is unlocked. He finally said they could put a lock on it, if it's vacant. But I don't think it is; I think the guy is just gone for a few days. He's some kind of musician, I think. He takes off for 3-4 days at a time.

I have no room at all to bring stuff in... I'm thinking very seriously about just getting a storage room. And wondering if I could save $3000 between now and the end of August. That's what it would cost me to move. I kind of doubt it... Next year, sure, but not this year.

The roommate will be home tomorrow, so I'll clue him in, and maybe he'll feel like having a fit for them. This just absolutely bites...

Too bad there isn't some kind of 'Rent-A-Rottweiler' program you could get with. Wouldn't that just surprise the hell out of some punk kid when he went to crawl through the hole? ^^;

are there any friends of yours that you can hoist a few boxes off onto for a few weeks? I mean, you could go through and gather all the relativly important things out of there and keep them somewhere for a bit. In the trunk of your car or under your desk at work even... just so no one steals it before the idiots who are eventually going to fix the wall actually get around to it?

*huggles* Hopefully no one's up to no good in there at the very least.

Someone finally got the point over at the office. There is now a nice padlock on the other garage door. As long as it's secured, I'm okay till they get it fixed. Roommate and kid are tag-teaming checking on the garage during the day.

It's probably to my advantage to just leave the junk alone for now. It really does look like a damn landfill. The boxes are all different sizes, and stacked (I use that term loosely) pretty haphazardly, and thanks to the kid going searching for things, there's a lot of loose stuff. I really need to do something with it, but... That would be work. *sigh* And if it was all nice and neat, they'd have actually found stuff to steal, so it's a mixed blessing.

I probably should look into getting a storage locker nearby. The one I have with all my mother's stuff is about ten miles away, and it's a pain to get to. I could move that stuff, sorting as I went along, and then move stuff from here, again, sorting as I go.

I have too much crap. When I die, it's all going to wind up at the Salvation Army anyway...

Believe me, if I could Rent-a-Rottie, I would. And sic him on the neighbors... (said the anti-social dragon brightly)
