Maybe they had some better lenses than the camera, but nothing in that first scene looked like a weapon to me. And if they were shown to be cameras after, then why didn't they see cameras?
Yeah. You kind of expect accidents; people being in the wrong place or something being off-target, but something so cold and deliberate is just... well, like the title says... Collateral Murder. >.< I expect my country to be better than that.
It's definitely collateral murder and I hate knowing what other hidden things that our military (and gov't) have done in the past while over in Iraq >.< I feel ashamed when I hear stuff like that. And omg, this reminds me of the movie Green Zone with Matt Damon. It's such an amazing movie and can definitely be true >.
Sigh. OK. Yes, I know and understand. Hightened "awareness", hightened situations. And things like this happen in a war. And people do behave and talk that way about their victims, are even encouraged (unofficially) to think and act that way, in order to not humanize the corpse you just created. But, could we, please, pretty please, make sure that those are, in fact, weapons. Not garden/farming implements (several of the "weapons" looked like rakes to me), not toys, and not long lens cameras? Can we please find out where KNOWN journalists are going to be? And please, please for the love of anything you hold holy. Stop thinking about the "target" as something disposable. They are people. Yes, they *might* be people shooting at you. But, you are people invading their home. That's right. We are/were Invaders in that action.
*steps off soapbox* sorry. I'm not a dove. I never have been. But there is no excuse for dehumanizing your enemy. It just leads to tragedy, and excess.
I come from a military background, so I have a pretty good idea of how things can escalate in crisis situations, but this was just so... casual. I wonder about those two kids. Did they get proper care? Are they all right, at the very least?
And why isn't this on MSN, CNN and Faux? Because Tiger's infidelity is more important? >_< Tch!
It kills me that the whole situation was built on a lie. A lie that most people were happy to buy into at the time. *sigh* I pay a lot more attention now. O_o
I debated... for quite a while. >_> You know I come from a military background, but there's a reason people don't like to talk about "what they did in the war". You just don't expect it to be something like this... I can't help wondering if the guys in the air have looked at this and if they would have done anything differently...

Still trying to figure out how those camera cases look like AK-17s?
That's just -shudders- disgusting.
Ok, one thing, I can understand why they would want to think they have weapons...but aren't you supposed to find out before killing?
-bangs head on table muttering 'bout freaking trigger happy people- Our US nation is...blah! >.
