*grins* not a problem at all. I saw this vid a bit back and went digging around for my own info--found a similar page.. :) was easy to replicate the search :D
I thought at first that it was a totally different owl. O.O What a difference! I must check the zoo and wild animal park sites and see if they have these owls. I'd love to see one in person! ^___^
I should look into if our zoo does--I doubt it though.. I think our local zoo got it's liscence taken away and is now just an animal collection or some such >< Stupid Alabama zoo.
I did some digging about and my local zoo only has two owls... and I'm not willing to drive 3 hours to see an owl. Or more accurately, my husband would stare at me like I was a loon, and say 'no'. ^^;
I'm pretty lucky with my location; an hour from the San Diego Zoo, 30 minutes from the SD Zoo's Wild Animal Park and two hours from the Los Angeles Zoo. But I usually go for the cats and bats. ^____^
Isn't that amazing?! I had to watch the thing three times to realise that the weird skinny thing was the same owl. And now I'm wondering if SD Zoo has one of those owls.... Hm...
If I get it right, this South African Owl is basically a bunch of fluffy feathers on a real skinny body, and it has mastered the ability to change the looks of its feathers so that it seems like it's shape-changing in different ways, depending on the strength of the opponent it's facing! For example, making them stick to its body in such a way that it makes it look like a... tree branch(?) when approached by that scary Jedi Mastar Owl! xD
That is the most bizarre owl I've ever seen! The text accompanying the pics in the video has some numbers; is that the size of the various owls in cm? If so, the Jedi-Owl s a tiny little thing compared to the others. O_O
