It occured to me this morning as I skated around the local Wallyworld aghast at how... empty it was, that I am having absolutely no holiday anxiety. O.o Wow! What a concept! I have my kid's gifts staged for that day next month. We are going out to eat tomorrow. My roommate is going to his family's. It took less than $40 to fill my gas tank. I have yarn to play with, fabric to play with, DVDs to watch, chips and salsa to gorge on and the ingredients for a dump cake, should I get so motivated, and my laundry is done and put away. ^____^

The water district has finished playing with the new hydrant - at some point in Top Chef, one of the teams named their restaurant "Quatre" (why am I watching this?! >.<) - my truck is shiny after last night's rain - I accomplished an amazing bit of sleight-of-organisation - and I have a whole... bunch? of amigurumi turnips made. ^___^

I will probably be struck by a falling space-toolbox. >_>

In the meantime, a bit more of something. ^__~

Walkabout

~ 6 ~

I did keep my promise; I kept in touch, by phone and by email. I wouldn’t tell them where I was, although they all asked. But I did tell them where I’d been. Sent postcards. And they kept me updated as well.

Duo went to L2, back to Hilde Schibecker’s salvage business, but it didn’t take long for him to get bored. I switched on the Sphere news one evening in my hotel room on L3 and spotted him in the background of one of Relena’s appearances. He was wearing the butt-ugly navy and olive uniform of a Preventor, the new peacekeeping force started by Lady Une and Sally Po. Also roaming the crowd was Wufei, though his eyes seemed to turn more often to Relena than anywhere else.

There Duo stood, a few paces behind Relena, a faint smile on his lips, purple eyes flickering here and there, watching the spectators with every bit as much concentration as I would myself.

Ah, grasshopper; you have learned well...

Actually, Duo is probably more aware of his surroundings than I am. He never had a protector while growing up the way I did. His survival skills are all self-taught and probably more deeply ingrained for all of that.

I watched him watching for the rest of the speech. Couldn't tell you what Relena said. So Quatre thought that Duo had the hots for me? Wow. Never gave that much thought before. I admire Duo's competency, his skills, his chameleon-like personality, but I’d never thought about anything else. Never thought about... sex.

Sex. Hormones. Puberty. Well, damn... Perhaps I should take a closer look at my own hormones.

Hn. I turned on my computer and sent an email.

“Those colors suck,” I wrote. “Who designed those uniforms; a color-blind Ozzie with a grudge?”

I had an answer within five minutes.

“Trust me; I voted for the purple paisley. No fashion sense at all.”

I began to keep track of Relena’s appearances.

Drooling on my boots, huh? Hm…

Sounds like you're all set for the holiday. ^^

I agree - the uniform *is* butt-ugly. Heero seems to be getting a hint, finally... ^^

Enjoy your Turkey day!

It's funny how liberating not having family can be at holidays. ^___^

I intend to eat like a five-year old tomorrow. ^.o

The more formal title is 'Roast Fowl Day'. ^^; Though since the SIL isn't a bird person, we'll be having ham. (Never mind that turkey is one of the brother's favorites... Sap forbid she fix something she doesn't prefer)
I'll be taking the crocheting... I figure I can crochet until my damn arm falls off. >_>
Yes Heero, time to pay attention! The uniform colors may not be all that appealing, but the fit is pretty good. ^_____^

From: [identity profile] lavendarlizard.livejournal.com
I used to make ham, back when I was still cooking. I did a turkey brest a couple of times, but didn't even see any of those this year. Heh. Maybe next year you can poke SIL and bring a turkey breast just for the brother. Spread a little hate and discontent for the holiday. ^____^

I started the project with the Yarn From Hell; it's actually going fairly well. It's possible I could finish it tomorrow! ^__~

Those are without a doubt, the worst colors for a public service uniform. Even peanut butter and pickle is better than that. =p

Good luck! ^___^

From: [identity profile] sunhawk16.livejournal.com
Don't tell me... the yarn is behaving for you, isn't it? *sigh* If it is, when I finish my current project, I may will you the rest of it! :P
We were all set to make the turkey breast and take it, with the home-made stuffing and everything, but then Mom chicked out. Damn it. >_>

Date: 2008-11-27 04:27 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] lavendarlizard.livejournal.com
Well, I wouldn't call it 'behaving'; more like intimidated. >_> I growl at it frequently, just to keep it in line and so far, it's working. ^__^ It's slow going, though. I have to "look" at every stitch to make sure I don't miss a strand. ^_~ I think it'll come out nice, though.

Better luck next time, then. Or you could slip him a package of deli turkey... ^__^

Ok, I feel better; that's what it was doing to me... every damn stitch, you had to be careful, or it split like crazy.

Ummm... Probably...? O_O

The stuff is nice, but I'm not sure I'd go out of my way to acquire it. *shrugs* Especially after all the problems you've had. O.o

Oh... and on the craft topic, since the younger brother was here yesterday, Mom gave him the stocking I made for the kidlet. And she also gave him the stupid ami. You know... the one that I made for her because she was bitching about coming up with presents for the little tyke? *blink blink*

Just that you should be ready for her sudden swerves by now. ^___^

That was a great opportunity for you to remark "Mom, when you said you wanted something for 'the baby', I didn't know you meant *him*. I'd have made a spaceship..."

Or a dork cover. >_> You got any patterns for dork covers? Idjit needs one. Three hundred pounds (I'll bet) and with high blood pressure problems and all kinds of crap, and he just decided he was tired of taking meds so he dumped them all cold turkey. O.o
He was telling me this right after getting done with the big dinner at the older brother's, while carrying the pumpkin pie Mom sent home with him, and he was on his way to deliver the kidlet stuff and... have a second dinner at his son's house. >_<;

He was telling me something about not eating out so much, like maybe he actually had vague ideas of 'turning himself around', but then he was telling me about GAINING ten pounds, so I'm thinking he's not quite on the right track here... >_<;

Isn't preparation wonderful? I'm cooking the corpse tomorrow but I'm prepared. Pies baked, jello made, veggies cleaned and chopped. AND most important of all, bird defrosted! I learned a LONG time ago not to try to impress anyone. A simple meal but lots of it is all that's needed. Everyone is satisfied.

I love your Heero. He's not a psycho or a repressed nut case, just confident and open to new things. He is certainly interested in Duo's situation isn't he? *snicker* Gotta love those teenage hormones.

Oh yeah, the uniforms?...*cringes*

Isn't it amazing how many people don't realise how long it takes a frozen turkey to defrost? O.O

I figure Heero just hasn't had time to think about hormones before this. He was kind of busy... ^___^

Heero my dear, I don't think it's Relena's appearances you're keeping track of...

I'm slated for the persimmon and avocado salad with miso dressing, and the persimmon pie for the morrow.  (you can tell i've got a ton of persimmons to get rid of. ^^')  I was thinking so hard about the persimmon and avocado and miso that I darn near forgot to buy the greenery to put it on!

(a *bunch* of turnips! ha!)

Date: 2008-11-27 05:11 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] lavendarlizard.livejournal.com
^___^ We'll let him figure that out on his own. It'll be an amusing journey.

Persimmon? Why am I thinking 'fuyu'? O_o

Avocado sounds yummy, though. ^__~

I don't have my collective collection handy... are turnips a 'bunch' or a 'clump' or something else? O.O I know the solitary turnip is the Mighty Turnip...

^___^

From: [identity profile] turnippatch.livejournal.com
Fuyu persimmons.  Yuppers, those are the crispier type, compared to the hachiya persimmon, which is the squishy type.

I didn't really eat persimmons before... until I acquired an over-enthusiastic tree. -_-

I'm gonna go ahead and guess that turnips travel in bunches.  Although if the lone turnip is in a particularly foul mood, it might make a murder of turnip all on its own... >_>

Date: 2008-11-27 05:38 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] lavendarlizard.livejournal.com
*whew!* I was afraid I was having brain farts. I tried a fuyu a few weeks ago... Not sure I'd go out of my way to acquire one, but if it appeared in my fruit salad, I'd eat it. ^___^

Better persimmons than zucchini... O_o

So... Death by Turnip? ^_____^

From: [identity profile] turnippatch.livejournal.com
Hey, them turnips have got pointy ends for a reason! ^o^

Yeah, persimmons are weird... they're sweet, but they don't really have a distinct flavor.  Which is good, otherwise I'd have gotten really sick of them by now. ^^

Hmmm, your wallyworld was empty, mine was hopping! And our asst mang didn't schedule enough people to cope with all the customers who wanted deli food last night since they were cooking today!

And right, Heero's keeping track of 'Relena'...

And Happy turkey day to you!

I was pretty surprised. The parking lot was full, but the store was just... dead. O.O And they had tons of cashiers; I walked right up, no line at all... The cashier said it was just a lull, but still... >_>

Well, Relena is the one who keeps getting her butt kidnapped... ^___^ That's his excuse and he's sticking to it.

We're heading out to attack the bird right now. ^___^ Have fun.
