she still reminds me of...
May. 23rd, 2006 07:57 pmMiss Piggy... O.O *shakes head*
Remember that day I mentioned? The one that was 'one of those' days? Change that to 'months'. >.<
Duo had been on autopilot for some blocks the next time Murphy reared his ugly laughing head.
A door opened into the alley and a man stepped out, turned and spotted them. Relena stumbled to a halt with a sharp gasp. Duo registered the style and cut of the uniform before he really saw the man within it, and launched himself at the OZ soldier. The man had time for recognition to dawn in his eyes before Duo's big sharp hunting knife nearly took his head off his shoulders. His hand even went toward his holstered weapon before his body collapsed in a bloody heap.
Chinese, Duo noted automatically, wiping his knife blade on the soldier's uniform. He thought momentarily of Chang Wufei, the arrogant lone wolf of their little group.
Then his exhausted nerve endings reminded him that he was in *pain*, dammit, and what the *hell* did he think he was doing, throwing them around that way?!
He looked for Relena; she was throwing up against the wall of the building. He sighed. It wasn't like he'd planned this, after all. The shuttered warehouse that belonged to the Sweepers through a dozen layers of legal red tape and dummy corporations squatted in a maze of a few dozen other abandoned or under-used buildings left over from the city's days as a manufacturing center for this region. They only had a couple of blocks to go. He could make it and by god, so would she.
"Relena!" he hissed. "We have to get moving now. Someone's gonna come looking for this guy. We don't have far to go, another five or ten minutes."
She moaned piteously, slumped against the rough wall.
If I can do it, she can do it, he thought with a growl.
"Relena!" he snapped. She pushed away from the wall and stumbled toward him, keeping her eyes carefully away from the dead soldier.
“Was that... necessary?” she said shakily as she helped him to his feet.
“This is what a war looks like, Relena. Nobody gains their freedom without some blood being spilled; better his than ours,” he sighed. He took a step; shit, it hurt even worse now.
A noxious thought wormed its way to the fore-front of his consciousness. Are you gonna be able to pilot? He swallowed the sharp fear that followed. Damn well better, hadn’t I?
A Gundam wasn’t like an aircraft or a shuttle; its closest cousin was a helicopter, also notoriously difficult to master. Piloting any mobile suit, and especially the larger, more complex Gundams, took an enormous amount of concentration, strength and the ability to think fast and react even faster. The yoke controls were easy; it was the pedals that could get him killed if he couldn’t manage with this goddamn knee.
Goddammit! He hadn’t spent half the night communing with rats, Ozzies and Relena Peacecraft only to discover that he couldn’t get his Gundam outta this lousy town! Pain was only temporary; dead was forever.

Date: 2006-05-24 01:47 pm (UTC)I'm hoping for a day of complete silence... I never get that unless the RM is gone or asleep and the kid is in school. And he graduates this year... *sigh*
The next part of BFB was supposed to be short and sweet... Note the *supposed to be*, there... ^.o

Date: 2006-05-24 01:53 pm (UTC)Well, piloting a Gundam or even a mobile suit can't possibly be simple. O.O I keep imagining an F-18, a helicopter, a Harrier and a Blackbird combined and then taken to the 5th power. No way some untrained schmuck off the street (Relena) could possibly drive one of those babies. Just thinking about what the things can do would give a Top Gun grad a migraine AND a hard-on. ^.o
