My adopted baby brother lives in Houston.... >.<

Actually, he's currently renting a house in a little place called Kemah, which is approximately 30 meters from the water of Galveston Bay. At this moment - I *hope* - he and the dog are about at the Oklahoma state line. He may not stop until he hits Canada. Meanwhile, his partner, who is a govt cop, is hunkering down at the office in Houston.

I've chewed my talons down to the vein, and I know the boy has quite a bit of brain on him, but mother of god - a catagory *5*! Heading straight for Galveston! The worst disaster in American history happened in 1900 when another great mothering hurricane hit Galveson and took the city right down to the sand and killed between 6000 and 12000 people. *paces the hallway, switching tail madly*

I walk into the house, turn on the TV to check the weather and find... a sick Airbus circling LA. O.O; WTF?! Did I turn left into the Twilight Zone?!

So, I spend two and a half hours watching a crippled plane flying low and slow; gear down, flaps down to burn off as much fuel as possible. And then held my breath when they crossed the threshold on 25 left and watched that baby glide, as smooth as oiled silk, straight down the middle of the runway to a picture perfect landing. YAY!!!

Someone PLEASE buy that pilot a vente Starbucks. Every day for the rest of his life. ^__^ Beautiful, dude! I want to fly with him the next time they force my scaly purple butt onto an aircraft. I wonder if Jet Blue flies to Baltimore.... o.o

Like I said, just some random energy venting.... The bro won't be calling until at least tomorrow morning. *gnaws on last talon*

*wonders at magical attributes of talon gnawing*

Good luck to your brother and his SO! Sounds like bro has the right idea, at least.

Will think good thoughts, pray, and cross fingers and toes.

*nibbles nails, just a little*

You know, I was just thinking about him today and wondering where exactly they were. But... he had to leave the other half down there? O.O Well, that sucks! And you don't think he'll check in until tomorrow? You can't call him? Where's he headed to?

He's a smart guy; he knows that 'things' can always be replaced. ^__^ He's managed to survive earthquakes, flooding and wild fires, so I have confidence.

But I still worry. It's in my job description.

The other half is pretty resourceful, plus his job has pretty good shelters, I think.

I could call him, but he warned that he would have his cell off until tomorrow morning, so I'll wait. And he'll want to talk to the other half once he stops somewhere.

Like I said, he and the dog are heading for Oklahoma, at least; maybe further. ^__^ He's not taking any chances. The only thing he didn't tell me was which car he's driving. They have three Miatas and an Explorer; he said they were going to park two of the Miatas at the airport in a secure parking structure (since the SO works near there), but he didn't say if he was driving a Miata to Oklahoma or if he has the Explorer. If he has Lucy, I'm gonna be... very not amused. >.<

He fully expects the rental house to be flooded; I hope the house they're buying is at least on higher ground. I need to go back and look up the address and see where it is in relation to Galveston Bay...

I really want to see and touch him right now...

Yeah, I'd want to see and touch too! And I don't have anyone in that situation! So I'll worry with you!!

I saw the thing about the aircraft! I think we need to throw in some pastry with that Starbucks!

Rita is very scary- I'm glad your brother is getting out of the way, and I will be crossing my fingers for his partner.

It's scary to think that evacuation could be a regular activity at this time of year. "Where are you evacuating this year?"

Woah, I wonder if my mom was watching that. Her father was a pilot, and she'd go nuts analyzing it.

Ooh, I saw that plane too! I'll bet passengers will be offering the pilot their first borns.
I'm glad your brother is getting out of there. This is scary scary stuff. I hope everyone gives just a little bit to relief foundations, if everyone gives just a little there should be more than enough to help everyone!

So, he's not really going anywhere specific, just driving north? O.O I guess coming back to California was a bit too far.
Probably too early and you haven't heard anything yet?

I have a feeling that cell service back there is problematic right now. Still haven't heard. I just hope he left when he said he would, and got out before the gridlock took hold. -_-

Pilot deserves a Chuck Yeager trophy or something. ^__^

I hope he got out early. >.< He said he would...

Yeah. This would be why I cannot imagine living where hurricanes threaten every year. We only have earthquakes, wildfires, mudslides and sports riots.

I read this morning that not only was the whole freaking world watching, the *passengers* were watching on DS!

Rita seems to weakening, but it's also edging east. Towards New Orleans. O.o I wouldn't last a year back there....

I'm glad to be up in the Frozen North. We get the cold here in Alberta, but no horrible deadly storms. I think the last tornado we had here was in 1987 or something like that.

Don't suppose you could get hold of the SO? He'd at least know when he left. You could at least have the SO deliver a smack to the back of the head to insensitive 'siblings'. *snerk*

'Call the Dragon!' ^^;
