Monday Banshee
Mar. 28th, 2011 12:15 pmIt's Monday and I am cranky again. I'm not sure why that would ever be a surprise. ^___^
Crankiness today stems from not being able to find a pattern that I've been searching for for ages. This is a sewing pattern, Butterick to be precise. I only buy sewing patterns when the local Joann's has a special dollar/two dollar each deal and this one has eluded me for almost two years. >.< I'm fairly sure that if I want to waste some fabric and rip out some hair, I could probably kludge the things myself, but for a couple of bucks (on special) why not save the fabric and the stress? Except... every time I go looking for the damn thing, the store is out. Crumps. Not in the usual pattern-has-been-discontinued manner, but in the super-annoying sure-we-have-a-tab-in-the-drawer-but-*you'll*-never-get-one way. >_< I feel like I'm hunting some impossibly rare animal; I keep seeing the spoor, but the animal itself is waaay elusive. It's not yet extinct, but I fear it will be before I can find the bloody thing! O_o
Isn't it amazing the things that set me off? ^___^ Better to be mad about a paper sewing pattern than judging sniper posts, though. I do have the edges and the curves that my mom used for designing and I've always got paper and pencils around, so one day I will reach a point of fury and just make my own damn pattern. And then my kid will expect me to design stuff for him... O.o Oh, dear... I should probably search harder for that pattern... >_>
Knitting and crocheting designs are so much easier, and so much easier to fix! ^____^
If you haven't already scuttled past me to the fic, do so now; shoo! ^___~
BFB – Part 103 – Crazy is as Crazy Does
In spite of our excursion in the night, I was up by 0530. Heero was in the shower again, so I took the opportunity to step out onto my terrace and close the door behind me. He didn’t need to know what I was doing until I’d finished pissing off the IchiBan.
I opened my phone and hit the speed dial button for Giniro. I’d been over every scrap of our conversation since he got home and Heero never said not to whine to his grandmother. I wasn’t planning on whining anyway; I was just going to very maturely ask that she not disembowel my boyfriend for doing something by instinct. I may not have actually “chosen” him yet, but I’m about as sure as one can be that I will as soon as he lets me.
“Good morning, Duo,” she answered and I could almost feel her smile.
“Good morn- um… no, it would be evening for you, wouldn’t it? Good evening, IchiBan.”
“Before we continue, is this about Heero’s difficulty?”
“Yeah; actually it is… I just wanted to tell you that I’d really appreciate it if you didn’t roast my boyfriend.”
“Roast him? Why ever would I want to roast him?” She was smirking now; I could feel it.
“Because of the difficulty? He said he has to appear before the Council and explain himself. Are you sure there’s no roasting involved?”
A tiny, clearly indulgent sigh. Cool, I’d amused her.
“No roasting, I promise. No disembowelment either. It’s a formality, really. Whenever one of our Clan has a… difficulty with the Human world, they are required to come home and explain it personally. It’s not a punishment, Duo. Not as such.” She was quiet for a moment. “It’s more of a debriefing. Is that the correct term? Explaining a situation and one’s part in it.”
“Yeah, that’s right. It’s a military term, isn’t it? For an oral report.”
“Ah. Exactly. Heero has to report on the mission and detail the situation for us.”
“Is he going to be punished?”
“I won’t know that until I hear his report, little one. But if you are thinking 20 lashes with a cat o’ nine tails, don’t be silly. We are civilized creatures. He might have to write some lines and take a refresher course in how not to eat Humans.” Now I knew she was snickering. It relieved my mind considerably, though.
“Okay, as long as I get him back the same as he left here. Thanks, Giniro.”
“You are most welcome, Duo. I understand you are house-hunting for a vampire. Is it a good vampire?”
“He’s cool. Not like the goofy fictional vamps. He’s very family-oriented, very benign. I like him and I think Heero does, too, but he growls at him for not being a very competent vampire.”
“Well, Heero is all about competence and efficiency. And fear; a little fear is a good thing.”
“This is true.”
“Have you situated your vampire yet?”
“Not yet. There aren’t a lot of listings around here for 16th century manor houses. Inazuma and I spent yesterday arranging for the moving of his belongings from the house into storage. And reassuring his family that he’s going to be fine. The rest of the week looks like we’ll be knee-deep in appraisers.”
“Excellent; I am sure you will succeed. Give the Elflet my regards. Safe day, little Banshee.”
She closed the connection before I could say goodbye. And then I realized… Giniro had referred to Ctik as “my” vampire. Bloody hell… That female has spies everywhere.

Okay, that was fun. Giniro is the perfect grandmother. Times like this, I expect her to show up at Duo's balcony with a plate of hot, fresh cookies and a big hug for her 'little banshee'.

Date: 2011-03-29 02:37 am (UTC)She's definitely the un-human kind of granny. ^___^ If she could teleport herself, she probably would be popping in to offer goodies. Probably a good thing she can't. Heero might get a little miffed. ^___~

Date: 2011-03-29 02:38 am (UTC)She has to keep him on his toes, for when he officially "marries" into the Clan. ^____^
Re: KEWL
Date: 2011-03-29 02:40 am (UTC)Thank you, thank you! ^___^
I'm going to try a couple of other Joann's in the region for the pattern, but thank you for the delightful offer. It's become a personal duel between me and that damned pattern. ^___~

Date: 2011-03-29 02:47 am (UTC)I'm going to try over in O'side first, just to see if it actually exists in a drawer somewhere, but I refuse to buy it for full price. Patterns are just ridiculously expensive these days. I will wait for the $1.99 special to come around again. ^___^ I'm stubborn that way.
But I like the idea of getting together. We must discuss that. ^___~
Giniro has had a lot of experience with youngsters, both Wyvern and others. ^___^

Date: 2011-03-30 06:11 am (UTC)I do soo sympathize with your pattern-finding troubles. I'm kind of an odd shape, and it's hard to find patterns that would fit me right. Too many curves. what pattern were you looking for? It might be where I am.
And finally, ... Giniro is so sweet. She really gets that Duo's worried about HIS Wyvern. *snerk* Wonder what Ctik thinks about being "Duo's" vampire?

Date: 2011-04-01 04:36 pm (UTC)I somehow doubt that the IchiBan bakes her own cookies. That's what she has minions for. ^____^
I am frequently amazed at what sets me off sometimes. Most things I can work out by talking to myself while driving. Now that I'm limited in that area, I have fewer outlets. Sure, you can talk to yourself on the public transit, but it's really not a good idea. ^___^

Date: 2011-04-01 04:40 pm (UTC)I will remember that next time I make gingersnaps. ^___^ Don't make them often as they always seem to be... underwhelming. O_o I'm not enough of a chemist to mess with the baking recipes on my own, though. ^___^
I don't have a problem with adding twice as much chocolate chips to the CC cookies... Hm... O.o
Giniro *really* wants Duo to join the "family". She's not above bribery and flattery to get him there. ^___^
Ctik has not encountered this opinion yet. ^___^

Date: 2011-04-01 04:43 pm (UTC)Giniro doesn't have to play nice, but that's why she does. ^___^
I'm on the mailing list, so I get the coupon ads every month. Gives me time to plan. Broke as I am right now, I really shouldn't even be looking at the things, but you know... It's shiny. O_O
Re: KEWL
Date: 2011-04-01 04:50 pm (UTC)Just an FYI; I tried replying earlier, but LJ was being difficult. If the other one crops up at some point, just, you know, ignore. ^___^
Ravelry should be classified as a Schedule 1 drug. A large, snarky raptor turned me on to it a while back and I have wasted many an hour drooling into my keyboard over patterns there. ^____^ I'm working a pattern I found there right now, and I do have a 'someday' list.
I sorta/kinda wish there was a fabric pattern equivalent, but it's a lot easier to stuff some yarn and hooks or needles into my purse than a sewing machine. ^___^
CP had a massive exodus of hamsters a few summers ago when the temps locally hit the triple digits and I couldn't afford to run the a/c. O.o A few of them have returned, but they are cranky and contrary. ^___^ It's not abandoned; just going as slowly as continental drift. =P
One of these days I will shock the crap out of everyone and post new CP. ^___^
