lavandarlizard2With all the ads that stuffed yesterday's newspaper, all the commercials on TV, all the email "buybuybuy!" and all the banners on most of the webpages I've been to in the past week, I STILL found no compelling reason to subject myself to Black Friday. Heh. I am ridiculously pleased by this. ^___^ It doesn't happen often.
Not that there is nothing that I want, but I have not the money or the honey for the things I want. ^.~ So, no things this year. The kid is well-accounted for, so we're good. Even the cats have their can of xmassy goodness staged. And I guess they'll still get it, even though they've run me down four times already this morning. O.o
So... Fic instead. ^____^
Wheels
“Duo?” called Heero from downstairs.
“Bedroom!” he yelled back. He pushed himself up into a sitting position and pointed a finger at the floor. “Down, Morgan.”
The enormous dog just looked at him.
“C’mon, the boss is home. Unless you want to be on the patio for a couple of hours, down.”
The dog huffed in annoyance and hopped down to collapse on the rug at Duo’s side. He leaned over to ruffle her ears. “Good girl.” He passed her a treat and she accepted with a disdainful sniff.
Heero walked in a moment later and sprawled across the bed to kiss Duo lightly. “You know,” he murmured against his love’s cheek, “The bed is still warm; I know she’s been up here.”
Duo blushed, snorted. “She’s… protective, I guess.”
“And you don’t have the heart to keep her off. That’s okay; she’s got her summer cut so the shedding isn’t too bad.” He backed off the bed to change his clothes quickly before rejoining Duo.
“So, how’d it go today?” Duo asked wistfully.
“I got a call from the prosecutor on the Tinkerhell operation regarding Bettlegras.”
“L’Orang? What’s she want?”
Heero snuggled close, smoothing his free hand over Duo’s shoulder and down his chest. “She asked if you would be willing to come to court.”
Duo rested his head against Heero’s shoulder. “I thought she wasn’t going to bring me into it. It wasn’t my operation; I just barged in and got caught in the middle.”
“You did not ‘barge in’; you were invited to be part of the strike team. She doesn’t intend to call you as a witness; she just wants you, in uniform, sitting in court.”
“Why would…? Oh, wait. Constant visual reminder of what Bettlegras caused and what he intended for the kids inside. I get it.” He nodded. “Trial starts in a couple of weeks, right?”
“Yes. On the 23rd. Think you’ll feel up to it?”
“Hell, I feel up to it now. If it’ll help put that fucking sleaze away for good, you bet I’ll be there.” Heero kissed his temple and Duo snickered. “Should I wear the dress uniform with all the ribbons and medals? Or is that too formal for day wear?”
“The rest of us will be in UDs, so I think you’ll stand out nicely in the dress whites.”
Duo grinned up at him. “You gonna help me polish the brass? There’s quite a lot of it and I haven’t worn it in a while, so it’s pretty tarnished. Heh. Just like me.”
“You are not ‘tarnished’. You are ‘richly patina-ed’.”
“You are such a sap…”
“Only for you, baby; only for you.”

Date: 2008-11-29 12:53 am (UTC)I've shopped Black Friday exactly twice in my life. Once was for a loss-leader TV for my mother at K-Mart and the second was for the freebie survival goodie bag and some mascara at Target. I've worked too many of those days to want to shop those days. O.o

drive-through pharmacy for me too! hoping for quick pickup. they screwed up a copay and rather than fight for parking and struggle inside to get through the store like a salmon battling its way upstream, I paid instead. Had them document it and provide paperwork, so I can get it reimbursed myself.
'cause I'm really not going inside a store Black Friday.

My pharmacy was as dead as Walmart had been. Of course, it's right across from the campus, so I imagine a lot of people went home for the weekend. Collee town; it has its good points and its bad points. ^___^

Date: 2008-12-01 04:41 am (UTC)I've been eyeing a new bed from Ikea for a long time. It was in my plan to upgrade at some point, no hurries, and that one matched the dresser I already had... and then on Wednesday I get an ad in the mail telling me that that exact item is BlackFridayed at Ikea. -_- I was BF-free, too. I'm just glad the place opens at 10AM and not something like 6AM. It was pretty orderly there, though.
Walked Home Depot in the morning before Ikea, too... it was very calm and quiet there. Whole stacks of this fridayed ladder still available, so I thought I'd come back and pick one up later since I had to go to Ikea... and then that night, all the ladders had disappeared. =( I wonder if people were out shopping during the day, but just not impressed enough to hit everywhere early.
